Mirage by Kevin Parker

If you ever wanted to get your favorite bottled drink from the store without walking inside - just make it appear - then this is what it'd look like. Using no sleeves, gimmicks, devices, jackets, or trick bottles, your hands visibly empty, nothing hidden in your shirt or pants, you proceed to manifest a bottled drink full of liquid, right in your empty hands or even on a surface like a table, ledge, etc. Completely impromptu, this is a miracle that can be done anywhere at anytime, all operating on a very devious secret from the mind of Kevin Parker. Puncture by Ben Morris-Rains: A dollar bill is borrowed, as well as a pen. The bill is folded in half lengthwise, and the bill is cleanly pushed through. The pen is taken out, and the bill is shown to be unharmed. The bill is then folded widthwise, and the pen is placed into. Now, the pen starts to slowly melt through the bill, and they are both handed back to the spectator. Just imagine Misled, but completely impromptu. Works with any bill. There are no gimmicks either. One additional bill penetration by Ben Morris-Rains is taught on this DVD as well.

Show an exquisite veneer wood box which has a brass plaque on its lid depicting all 5 ESP symbols. Now ask a spectator to freely select and remember anyone of the 5 symbols shown. The spectator now names which symbol they have chosen. In a dramatic and entertaining fashion a prediction is now revealed from inside the box by the performer. The prediction showed perfectly matches the ESP symbol chosen by the spectator. Mental Case is a completely self contained effect which can be repeated with a different outcome each time.

Quick and Effective Cold Reading by Richard Webster

A complete text on how to give brief cold readings to anyone and astound them with your accuracy. THE CLASSIC BOOK ON COLD READING. When the first edition of Quick and Effective Cold Reading was published, Bascom Jones, editor of Magick, wrote that it was 'one of the all-time GREAT publications in mentalism.' If Bascom was here today, he would not be surprised to discover this book is now considered the classic book on the subject. Cold reading is the art of giving a reading to someone without knowing anything about him or her beforehand. Quick and Effective Cold Reading teaches you how to give short, factual, informative and satisfying readings to people you know nothing about, and may not have met before. The ability to give a satisfying reading is a useful, arguably essential, skill for anyone involved in the psychic entertainment field. For many years, copies of this book were hard to obtain, as distribution was deliberately restricted to people who were serious about learning how to become good cold readers. This new, updated edition is especially produced to commemorate this book's twenty-fifth anniversary. Pages - 111 - Softcover - Perfect bound

Easy Money DVD by John Lovick and Patrick Page

The dream is universal: making money from nothing. Once you've learned Patrick Page's classic trick, Easy Money, that dream will come true! Holding five blank pieces of paper, the magician folds them in half. Unfolding them, each slip instantly transforms into a genuine, spendable $100 bill! Just as easily, the dream slips away. With another fold and wave of the hand, the bills become blank again. Through spectators will credit the magician with deft finger-flinging or adroit sleight-of-hand, Easy Money isn't difficult to perform. It requires a minimum of study and practice to master. Better still, after the necessary preparation is made, the trick can be carried in your pocket or wallet and performed at a moments notice. Every detail of Patrick Page's original effect is taught on this broadcast-quality DVD by John Lovick, acclaimed performer, author, and teacher of magic. Over the shoulder camera angles make understanding the trick easy. As a bonus, Lovick teaches variant handlings of the effect, and his personal handling of the Slow Motion Bill Transposition - a sleightless transposition of a $1 and $5 bill that happens in the spectator's hands. An ideal trick for strolling performers!

Underhanded Delivery by Arie Vilner

From the Foreword written by Ken Krenzel: Presentation and Method are inseparable, intertwined ingredients in creating entreating, magical magic. Magic is a most unique performing art which, optimally, evokes astonishment, wonder, and an experience of impenetrable mystery. Presentation style may range from serious comedic. Berglas and Tamariz succeed in equally mystifying and entertaining their audiences. Arie Vilner is an expert, creative magician who fully understands and applies those fundamental principles to his effects, techniques and performances. His work explores those areas in depth and introduces many breakthrough concepts and 'sharp tools' (Arie's Words). Underhanded Delivery and its variations will baffle and confound even advanced, knowledgeable magicians. Of course, the laity will be left standing at the starting gate. It is an utterly devious truly 'underhanded' subtlety. Underhanded Delivery delivers! And as you will presently understand is a literal example of 'out of the box' thinking...

Superstition by Big Blind Media

A great new effect from the creative and slightly strange mind of Liam Montier! This is easier than a jigsaw with all the bits glued together! Imagine offering your spectator the chance to select themselves a 'lucky card', which they do - say it is the Five Of Diamonds. You comment that while that is not a bad card, you have a REALLY good one that you keep on you at all times, attached to your keyring. It is trapped between two blank cards to ensure that nothing can happen to it. There are clearly only three cards on the keyring. You then cleanly display your lucky card - say the Jack Of Spades. In a sudden display of goodwill, you offer to exchange lucky cards with the spectator, as you know your one is so good. Suddenly the Jack on your keyring CHANGES into the spectator's Five Of Diamonds. Again, there are clearly ONLY THREE CARDS on the Keyring - the double blanks and the spectator's selection. It looks cleaner than a soap-sudded gleaming thing with no grubby bits! Calling attention back to what the spectator believed to be their selection, they now see a small hole has appeared through the corner. That is because, when they turn it over, they find it is the JACK OF SPADES, fresh off your keyring. BONUS! Superstition is SOOOO easy and visual that Liam just knew there was more to be done with it - and he was RIGHT. Also included on the DVD are FOUR sexy pieces of sexiness, all related to the hussy-like SUPERSTITION! SANDWICH - A simplified version of the original Superstition, this effect features a totally new presentation, an even easier handling and a 'regular card' solution to the plot of a transposition between two selections while one is attached to your keyring. THE HOUDINI EFFECT - An exciting, visual vanish of a signed 'Houdini' card, despite the fact it is clearly PADLOCKED between two security cards. You will LOVE the combination of simple sleight of hand, clever gaffs and sheer cheekiness! TWILIGHT ZONE - Four red backed prediction cards reveal a selected card from a blue backed deck, despite being locked together on a keyring. The twilight zone part happens whenh the last prediction- no wait, that would be telling- THE HOF THING - The classic 'Hofzinser' ace problem is reworked when four kings are clearly displayed face up and then PADLOCKED together. Despite these test conditions, the King matching the suit of a selection still turns face down - before changing into the actual selection! Everything can be examined in this true worker. SUPERSTITION - IT IS COOL. BUY IT. BE HAPPY! Running Time Approximately 1hr 22min

Card Cognition by Rodger Lovins

The performer shows a deck of cards by dribbling them face up from one hand onto the other. He then has a card selected by telling the spectator that he would like him or her to say stop as he dribbles the cards this time face down. (NO FORCE) When the spectator says stop, the performer hands the selected playing card to the spectator telling them to look at it making sure not to let anyone else see their selection and to mentally keep a picture of it in their mind. The performer is then able to read their mind and tell them the name of their freely selected card. He then has another card selected. This time the magician is able to not only read the mind of the spectator, but transfers their thought into the mind of another spectator, enabling them to predict the selection. There are many other possibilities with Card Cognition as any selected playing card is instantly known by the performer! This effect is easy to do, can be repeated, and has no reset. No hard moves to learn, just great magic! Many different effects can be done with The Card Cognition Deck as you are able to know any selections made by anyone at anytime. Keeping them to yourself or pass that information on to another. The possibilities are endless.

This DVD has been made from a short 8mm Sound Movie filmed back in the 1980's by Ake Hallberg from Sweden. Out of the blue, and via my friend Ulf Morling, the film was sent to me with full rights to use it in any way I wished. Ake, thank you so much for your generosity. Ake filmed Fred in Hyde Park running through some of his routines and sleights. You will see two performances of his fantastic Ambitious Card routine together with numerous sleights and color changes and as a final bonus you will see his Incredible Vanish of Coin in his tie. At one point during the film Fred found himself with a tourist spectator and as he shows him the Ambitious Card he mumbles...'As you are not a magician you don't know what ambitious card means do you'' This film is really short but as so much has been compressed into this brief interlude it can be watched over and over again and with each watching there is more to be seen and learnt. To me it is a true gem and a rare change to see Fred at work. Since having it converted to DVD format. I must have watched it at least fifty times. The film is but a brief prelude to the forthcoming book: The Magic of Fred Robinson by Peter Duffie Inside this DVD case you will find a description of the Coin in Tie Vanish which has been extracted from the manuscript of the book.

Nearly 20 years in the making but now printed. The reviewers in Genii and Magic gave the book the best reviews I have ever had for any book I have ever published. Here are just a few of the comments from those who have written lengthy tributes to Fred and his contribution to magic. 'I state without fear of exaggerating that Fred was one of the all-time greats; especially with cards.' - DAI VERNON 'Card magic and techniques of card-handling have fascinated me for most of my life. Meeting Fred was a highlight of my life.' - ROY WALTON 'Your journey with Fred is about to begin thanks to Peter Duffie and Martin Breese. I envy you.' - SIMON LOVELL 'Always with a twinkle in his eye, Fred would fool you consistently.' - GORDON BRUCEThe Magic of Fred Robinson may well be the most anxiously-awaited book amongst magicians the world over. It has been in the making for years. Finally it has been printed. Many magicians have contributed to this book and believe that it will be the most significant magic book of this decade. Fred Robinson was a private man but his skill at sleight-of-hand with cards and coins was legendary. He could be found at the Magic Circle on Monday evenings and many well-known names from around the world paid homage to Fred and traveled countless miles to witness for themselves his legendary skills. He was the editor of Pabular magazine and inspired contributions from the finest magicians of his time. The Magic of Fred Robinson documents and describes every effect that Fred performed. It has been written by Peter Duffie who has skilfully described all of Fred's sleights and effects in the greatest of detail. There are pages of detailed drawings and photographs and the book pays tribute to one of the greatest sleight-of-hand magicians the world has ever known.
Movie Time is a confabulation routine that creates a very startling revelation! On stage sits a generic DVD rental case, while you invite a spectator to come on stage to assist you. As you flip through a book of movie titles you blindly ask the spectator to pick one movie title. You then ask them to give you a random date of when the movie is to be returned and a random time. When you open the DVD case there is the DVD title the spectator picked along with a reminder card with the correct date and time the spectator predicted. 'Movie Time' comes complete with the following: Gimmicked DVD case Specially constructed movie book CD complete with customizable artwork, routines, DIY guide, etc. Reminder Cards In-depth manuscript with scripts, jokes, routines and performance ideas by Marc Spelmann, Floyd Collins and Robert Haas. 'I had a chance to perform this today for a group. Strong reactions. And fun to perform too. Thanks, man. Great work!' - Alexandre 'I want to thank you for releasing this gem. 'Movie Time' is simple, strong and effective- all the things I look for in an effect.' - Charley Adkins 'Hey buddy- Thanks for 'Movie Time'. Very clever and will go right into my act. You're the man!' - Will Ramsey 'Thank you for sharing your 'Movie Time' effect last evening at our meeting. Your creative thinking has once again amazed me. If you are ever in the Toledo area let me know, I would love to catch your show and see you perform this live. Keep them coming. I love what you have done so far.' - David Reinhard

You explain to the audience that you recently purchased a thoughts transference experiment from the Paranormal Psychology Institute which claims to have invented a 'no experience necessary' way to transfer thoughts. They mailed you the props necessary and an instructional CD which shows you how to conduct the experiment. You received it today and thought it would be a good idea to try it out on your audience. You open the shipping box and remove a CD. With any CD player, you put the CD in and start the lesson. After a short music introduction a scientist voice explains that this is the experiment of 'The Thoughts Transmitter 2000'. It instructs you to find two helpers from the audience, which only one joins you on stage. The helper on stage selects and memorizes a card, and is not allowed to show anyone, Using funny props, the stage helper 'transmits' the thoughts to helper in the audience. Comedy ensues as the selected card is secretly shown to the audience without the stage helper knowing. The stage helper is the only one that is amazed while the rest of the audience is in on the effect! Thoughts Transmitter 2000 Comes complete with the following: All necessary props (thoughts transmission device and reveal) Professionally recorded CD complete with long and short versions and in male and female voices. Additional bonus tracks included. An in-depth manuscript which includes jokes, scripts, and performance ideas A 'non CD version' for performers who wish to use this as a stand-up piece.'The use of an egg beater for a mind reading effect is destined to become a classic if it hasn't already and Floyd's routine makes maximum use of this handy little kitchen utensil.' - JOHN ARCHER 'A sure-fire comedy classic, enhanced for the modern performer. Love it!' - DAN HARLAN 'When I first saw Floyd Collins perform the Thoughts Transmitter 2000, he had me in stitches, and I knew right away I wanted to perform the effect in my corporate shows. If you are looking for a piece in your show that will get the whole audience involved, have them rolling on the floor and leave your volunteer wondering how in the world you were able to send a thought into the mind of another, then you will want to add the 'Thoughts Transmitter 2000' to your show. Neither you nor your audience will be disappointed.' - BOBBY WARREN, ASSOCIATE EDITOR, LINKING RING

Happy Faces by Paul Romhany

Looking for a routine that will play well for adults as well as children' Paul Romhany's Happy Face is the perfect routine for family entertainers and motivational magic. Based on a Wild Card effect, Happy Faces is destined to become a classic of Family Entertainers. Childrens Show: The magician shows four large sad smiley face cards and one Happy Face card. The magician tells the children he wants to see if they can help him make the sad faces become happy. By getting the children to laugh out loud the sad face cards magically change, one by one into Happy Face cards. Perfect for school performers, birthday parties and family events. Motivational Magic: Paul uses this routine in his Humor Seminar to show how one Happy Person can affect a group of unhappy people in a positive way. This ties in perfectly with Paul's corporate speaking show 'Laugh Yourself Well' that he presents to companies all over the world - he has even presented this for the New Zealand government in his humor seminar! BONUS ROUTINE: Extra cards are now included so you can perform Oscar Munoz version of Happy Face where four sad faced cards visually change to Happy - this has been the hit of Oscar's lecture tours in 2009. Happy Face is visual magic at its best and comes complete with the GIANT oversized gimmick cards and a DVD showing a performance and explanation. Easy to do, packs flat and plays BIG. Here is what the professionals are raving about: 'Lends itself to positive responses and plays well to children of all ages, I can use this in my school shows straight away!' - Tony Wilson- Past IBM International President 'My brain just went on overload! I could use this in my school show. It can be open up to so much possibilities from birthday parties to corporate shows. Send me TWO straight away.' - Oscar Munoz - USA 'Just caught your new Happy Faces routine ... great! Good strong magic and really nice positive message, should be in every kid-worker's repertoire. This is a winner!!! - John Kaplan - Canada 'I would call it A TRIPLE THREAT, because you can open with it, put it in the middle or close with it!' - Lee Delarno - USA 'Your Happy /Sad face trick is ideal for my Anti-Bullying school show. No one wants to be unhappy at school, I can see how it can be adapted to many message type shows that want to turn bad into good. This is a fun trick I can use to teach a serious message and also use at birthdays. Well done. Keep creating.' - Greg Britt - Elgregoe - National Presenter Kool Kids Care Shows- New Zealand 'Hey I love the Happy Face routine. I'm still grinning over it and wish I could have had it for my school holiday shows this week.' - Wayne Rogers - creator of appearing pole products

The Unusual Suspect DVD by Matthew Wright

A collection of brilliant, stunning, highly commercial routines that you WILL use! Matthew Wright is a leader in his craft and brings together an exciting blend of mind blowing magic, engaging presentations and award winning entertainment on 'the Unusual Suspect, his debut DVD. You will see six high-impact performance pieces that have been audience-tested over hundreds of performances then join Matthew in the studio to learn how and why these routines work. Each routine has been meticulously thought out and honed to perfection. These are routines that you will learn and immediately be able to use in your own repertoire. Each piece is accompanied by a brilliant presentation and also high entertainment value. On this DVD you will learn: Calzaghe's Opener: A workhorse card routine that is full of energy, magic and really lets them know that you have arrived! This is the piece that Matthew will immediately get into upon approaching a group of people. Final Destination: Matthew's highly visual ending to his three fly routine - it begins in the classic way but on the final coin, they actually see it float across - has to be seen to be believed. Performed LIVE in the bar, then every detail is covered in the explanation, including setup, performance and another of Matthew's great presentations! Mental Mullica: A fantastic prediction effect using the premise of money, a bet and whole lot of entertainment. This routine will put your Mullica wallet to full use and uses no forces of any kind, just a very devious method! Mint: Matthew has taken a classic effect by Derren Brown and given it his own unique twist and presentational angle that makes this a real-world worker. A thought of card vanishes from the deck, only to reappear in a mint packet that has been in full view the whole time! Mullica's Nightmare: A wonderful alternative presentation for the ambitious card that is well removed from the norm. Matthew has added another of his unique presentational slants and some creative thinking to turn this into a routine that is so much more than a card repeatedly rising to the top of the deck! The Big Finish Card Trick: Multiple selection routines come in all shapes and forms but in this particular version Matthew has created a handling specifically to be performed under-fire in almost any conditions. This is an excellent routine that gets everyone involved and builds in terms of method, structure and once again a brilliant presentation. 'Matthew has created one of the best close up shows I have ever seen. His balance of drama, humour and jaw dropping technique is refreshing! Students of our art will be delighted with his first offering to our magic community.' - Jeff McBride Running Time Approximately: 2hr 06mins

Visions of Ken Brooke by Martin Breese

One of the most exciting projects I have ever been involved in my 50 or more years in magic is now almost ready to send out. On this DVD are countless Ken Brooke movies showing him demonstrating and performing some of his classic routines together with many effects from Harry Stanley's Unique Magic Studio in London ... but best of all .... Patrick Page has provided a remarkable and informative live sound commentary for this fabulous DVD I acquired the copyright to all of the Unique Magic Studio material some years ago. Amongst the many Unique Studio items were a number of silent movies and many of these featured the amazing magic of the amazing Ken Brooke - one of the most loved British magicians of all time. Patrick Page was kind enough to view all of these Harry Stanley films and has provided a highly informative voice-over commentary on all of the effects that you will see on this DVD. Patrick Page knew Ken Brooke very well and he knew the tricks that Ken performed and here you will not only see Ken Brooke at work but will also hear a great deal about the history of the tricks and routines he performed. There are many, many delightful Ken Brooke interludes that will take old timers down memory road and which will inspire relative newcomers to magic as well.. It is all here from the Chinese Linking Rings KB ring count to the KB Coin Box plus many of the tricks featured over the years in the Unique Studio catalogs. As a very special bonus Patrick Page also allowed us to include some sound material. This was filmed just before Ken died so sadly. The sound material filmed by Vic Pinto and Patrick Page includes Chase the Ace and The Chop Cup routine and even the wonderful Tamariz Rabbits. Oh what a treat awaits every viewer! Russell Hall undertook the editing and labored away far into the night; night after night. Thank you Russell for your help in preserving an important part of our magical history. Thank you Patrick for your wonderful and informative live commentary. Running Time Approximately: 56mins

Magic Magazine July 2009

Cover: Dirk Arthur Watching Dirk Arthur get ready for work is a bit like watching a dad get his kids ready for a dirt track meet. There's the cleaning of gear, the loading of equipment, the dusty ride to where everything will take place, and even the good family friend who's been around, knows the ropes, and is there to help out and make sure everything goes smoothly so no one gets hurt. Of course, in this scenario, the 'kids' are 400- to 600-pound Siberian Tigers, the 'gear' is all the props needed for two daily (and different) illusion shows, and the friend is Michael Giles, who, as a former member of The Majestix, knows a thing or two about big cats and safety. As for the dusty ride, well, I was following the custom-built white truck and trailer from Arthur's Southwest ranch-style home to the Las Vegas Strip, where the animals were unloaded in preparation for their star turns in Dirk's XTreme Magic, which has just taken over the main showroom at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino with a brand new 7 p.m. show. Freedom of Speech - and How to Squelch It! Heckler. The word stabs icy fear into every entertainer's heart. Well, not the single word itself, but the loud and often unintelligible slew of words that are being hurled with great glee and malice up onto the stage from the darkness beyond the footlights. This is a magician's worst nightmare - someone who feels you aren't entertaining enough without their desperately needed help. How can an assault be inadvertent? To explore that theory, we contacted a number of seasoned entertainers and asked about their experiences with these insipid underworld creatures. Once compiled, there seemed to be a consensus that most disruptive people fit into the seven categories. The Jon Allen Experience Some conventional magic wisdom: 'Just be entertaining' or 'All you have to do is make them laugh' or even 'The tricks aren't important, you are important.' Remember this one? 'A magician is an entertainer first and a magician second.' Jon Allen was never one for conventional wisdom. His goal is specific. He is focused on giving every single participant (don't call them 'spectators' around Jon) a unique, magical experience. This is, of course, easier said than done. But through countless corporate and private events in his native UK, Jon realized something of vital importance - that most magic is utterly forgettable. 'It's not about the effect or how people perceive you, and it's not even about your presentation. It's all about how you leave people feeling. They don't care about tricks, but they do care about the experience that you give them.' A 100th Salute to Magic For the SAM Parent Assembly's 100th annual Salute to Magic on May 16, producer Sal Perrotta chose a legendary New York City venue. Believed to be the longest-running annual show in US history, the Salute began as a means of establishing a permanent home for the SAM. Performers in the early years included Houdini, Adelaide Herrmann, Okito, Dante, and LeRoy, to name just a few. Carnegie Hall was one of its earliest venues. Because stage magic is not the popular draw it once was, recent Salutes didn't have the ambitious reach of this Centennial show. For this evening, Sal engaged the highest-level performers available, and the resulting lineup was a treat to magic fans and magicians alike. Despite a few speed bumps, the show delivered magic that lived up to Sal's ambitious goals. In His Words: Al Baker Al Baker was a sharp-witted creator and performer of original, practical magic. In this interview from 1941, the year he became the Dean of American Magicians for the SAM, Baker recounts a bit of his own history and recalls some of the most famous names in magic. Magic in North Korea It took two years of negotiations for him to get there, but when Dale Salwak attended the Spring Friendship Art Festival in Pyongyang, he experienced a new culture of talented and enthusiastic magicians. Update Four pages of news stories covering: Lance Burton's accident that shut down the show at the Monte-Carlo, as well as the latest rumor about his possible extension; magic in the movies, including Love and Mortar, Death Defying Acts, Magic Man, and Mandrake the Magician; a Magic Circle show for the Royal Free Hospital; plus fond farewells to Earl 'Presto' Johnson, Arlene (Mrs. De Yip Loo) Louie, and Mahka Tendo. Marketplace Fourteen products are covered this month by Peter Duffie, Jason England, Gabe Fajuri, Brad Henderson, John Lovick, and Charles Reynolds. We also feature two tricks with borrowed bills this month. And we round out the issue with a hilarious 'accidental' Ace location from Austria's Wolfgang Moser, and an interesting take on the Mercury Card Fold. The Show Doctor DEAR SHOW DOCTOR: How do you select the right tricks? I have a big collection and I can't tell the good stuff from the bad stuff unless I try it out. I know I have too many tricks and need to cut down. What do you suggest? - Reynaldo M. Braindrops As much as I hate to admit it, I sometimes use magic tricks to hit on beautiful women. I'm not one of those guys who go to a club with an ITR and a flaming wallet, but if the situation presents itself, I will pull a few tricks out of my sleeve to distinguish myself as a suitable mate. Sadly, my rapier wit, impeccable fashion sense, and movie-star good looks will never compete with my ability to make a pretty flower out of a paper napkin. Paper Ball Transpo has a similar feel to a sponge-ball trick. It uses natural props and builds to an organic climax. Plus, afterwards you can fold the napkin into a flower. Directions It's absolutely true: in watching other performers, we can see ourselves. We sometimes make the same mistakes or the same brilliant choices, but don't recognize them until we observe them in someone else. Through this series of articles, enhanced by the accompanying videos you can find at www.MAGICmagazine.com, you can learn from watching other performers as I gently point out ways that their material can be improved, as well as the aspects of their acts that are working well. Although they refer directly to the video in question, these points also carry over as general principles of performing. There are many right ways of doing things, and these are a few options.

Around the Square by Devin Knight

A new and novel paper effect! Do not confuse this with the old Squircle effect. Although similar, this is a greatly improved version. A double sheet of newspaper is shown on both sides. It is folded into quarters and a small 2' square is cut from a folded corner. (In the original Squircle, a double sheet of newspaper is folded in half and a semicircle is cut out.) The 2' square is unfolded showing it is actually a 4' inch square. The double sheet of newspaper is partly unfolded. Instead of the expected rectangular shape, the audience sees a semicircle! (You cannot do this with the old Squircle.) The newspaper is completely unfolded revealing a cutout circle in the middle! For an additional kicker, the small cutout square is waved in the air. The corners VISIBLY turn round. This small piece is fully opened and seen to be a circle. This cutout circle perfectly matches the circular hole in the newspaper. Even the print on the cutout circle matches the rest of newspaper proving this was cut from that newspaper! Bonus Mental Effect: The performer has a participant select a card from an ESP deck. The participant retains the card, but he does not look at the symbol on it. The performer shows a sheet of newspaper and claims he will cut out a design that will match the symbol on the unknown card. The performer cuts out a square. The participant shows his selected ESP card; it is a circle. It appears the performer has failed. The performer says, 'That is exactly what I predicted, a circle.' Before the participant can protest, the performer opens up the sheet of newspaper revealing a cutout circle. The performer's prediction is correct! Suitable for both stage and close-up performances. Comes with sample newspaper, script with comedy patter, detailed photographed directions showing how to gimmick more newspapers and templates.

A dollar bill has been braided. Close examination reveals that it has two lengthwise slits that extend nearly to the ends of the bill, dividing it into three bands. The braiding is real although the bands have never been separate. It looks impossible. The bill can be borrowed, transformed into this impossible object, and returned to the owner in less than two minutes. The result is a distinctive memento. It is, as Michael Weber says, 'A bill that cannot be spent.' Comes with a companion 20-min DVD demonstrating the step-by-step procedure of how to create the braided bill.

Anthony Owen Lecture by International Magic

Anthony Owen is well-known as a BAFTA and Rose D'or award winning television magic producer and executive on over one hundred hours of television magic shows including Derren Brown, The Real Hustle, Dirty Tricks, Magick, Monkey Magic, The Quick Trick Show and The Secret World of Magic. However, his first love is as a creator of original, innovative magic and mentalism and in this DVD of his acclaimed lecture at the 2007 MacMillan International Magic Convention he shares some of his favourite material from his best selling books Some Tricks and Some More Tricks. Natural Lottery This gasp getting opener to Anthony's Monday Night Magic act is ideal for any stage or platform performance. The magician asks six random audience members to each select a different number between 1 and 49. Amazingly these numbers prove to be the same six which are on the printed lottery ticket the magician bought earlier that day! You might not be able to win the lottery, but you can influence your audience members to pick the numbers you want them to! No pre show or limited selections. Number at Card A unique solution to a legendary card effect. A deck is handed to a spectator for safe keeping. A playing card and a number between 1 and 52 are both freely named (no forces, pre show work or limited selections). The deck is opened and it is revealed that every card has a different number between 1 and 52 printed on its back -and incredibly the freely selected card bears the freely selected number! Holey Sh*t! An amazing visual vanish of a selected card created by Anthony in collaboration with Pete Firman. In Anthony's handling the selection visibly vanishes from between two examined cards each with a hole in its centre. The card appears face up in the centre of the deck which the spectator is holding. At the end all of the cards can be examined. This is ideal for commercial walkaround situations as no table is required. Big Survivor Members of the audience are invited onto the stage to participate in a magical version of a reality television show. The audience decides who is evicted and yet the performer reveals that he had correctly predicted the winner - twice. Entertaining, topical, stage filling mentalism. Ultimate Oil and Water A performance only of Anthony's acclaimed SOBW Oil and Water routine in which the cards separate even when mixed face up! REVIEW BY JOE M. TURNER FROM GENII MAGAZINE JUNE 2009 Review courtesy of Genii Editor, Richard Kaufman. To learn more about Genii - The Conjurors' Magazine go to geniimagazine.com 'This is a recording from a lecture at the MacMillan Convention. Well produced, particularly for a live recording rather than a controlled studio outing. Five routines are peformed and four are taught, but performers seeking quality mentalism and magic will find this a worthwhile disc. ''Natural Lottery' is a take-charge opener in which six audience members' randomly named numbers are found printed on a lottery ticket in the performer's wallet. Owen's version of the Berglas [Any Card at Any Number] effect is a fooler perfectly constructed for presentation to large audiences. And 'Big Survivor' is a customizable reality show in which you predict the eventual winner selected by the audience. 'The other explained trick is 'Holey Sh*t', a visual vanish of a card from between two examined cards with holes in their centers. It requires some special preparation and props, but they can be purchased separately (as can the props for the performance-only 'Ultimate Oil and Water'). 'This is powerful, entertaining and versatile professional material priced too low. The pros will likely be disappointed that I am praising it so highly rather than letting it sit quietly out sight, but honesty compels me.' Running Time Approximately: 53mins

You start with, say, three red spot cards and one black court card. After the great 'find the lady style' routine, you end up with three black court cards and just one red spot card! Can be performed strolling or at tables! You start and end clean - no fakes, either! Great kicker (surprise) ending! 'Corner of Piccadilly is a very strong monte routine that uses un-gaffed cards. Its kicker is truly astounding, and all can be examined. If ever there was a 'worker', this is it.' - David Regal (Genii Magazine) 'Corner of Piccadilly is a very solid routine: ideal for strolling and formal shows. The cards are beautiful and at the end, all is examinable. Recommended' - John Lovick/Bandgt; (Magic Magazine) Pages 8 - Saddle Stitched

Glass Box Revisited Book by Devin Knight

in 1985. He used this method to achieve world-wide fame with articles in over 2000 newspapers after predicting the Newfoundland plane crash. Your prediction is written in full view of the VIP and media. The VIP signs and dates your headline predictions. The predictions are sealed in an envelope which both the VIP and media members sign their names on to prevent a switch. On the day of the show, the VIP opens the envelope and reads the predictions. You are 100% correct. NO switch of the envelope, in fact you never touch it even secretly after it is sealed and given to the VIP. ONLY one headline prediction slip. It is NOT switched. You touch NOTHING ever, while on stage and I mean nothing, not even secretly. NO preshow work with the VIP. He brings the envelope to the show, opens it and reads the prediction slip he signed 30 days ago. NO GIMMICKS, no carbons, just the envelope and predictions. There is ONLY one envelope used period. Again no switches of any kind! Everything can be left for examination. Here is what the reviewers are saying: 'The Glass Box Revisited is a fascinating must read addition to the classic headline prediction story. The many tips and bits of business Devin has revealed will be of great interest to mentalists from neophyte to professional, especially the tech age information that brings everything up to date.' - Larry Becker 'Devin Knight released his headline prediction a few years ago to great acclaim, but now he's re-releasing a version which contains invaluable subtleties that he held back. You can certainly buy a four-figured slick-looking gimmicked prop to do an effective glass box headline prediction, or you can learn Devin Knight's handling which is just as stunningly effective, if not more so, for a sliver of the cost. In addition, the instruction manual for the aforementioned expensive prop does not contain all of the psychological details and subtle details needed to pull off this incredible miracle. The Glass Box Prediction does.' - Jheff 'Devin is deep and devious. He is not afraid to deviate from standard approaches and presentations. More than once I had to smile with respect for his off-the-wall genius. You will too, but to completely embrace his concepts you almost are required to become Devin Knight. As Rick Maue would say, 'This may require balls of steel.' You are starting on a journey that will be exciting and arduous, but highly worthwhile. Please listen and learn from a modern master.' - Jack Kent Tillar, Author of Quintet: Predictions for All Occasions and The Blister Book, Southern California - May 2009 Pages 53 - Comb bound Note: Box not included.

A card is selected and put back in the middle of the deck. The magicians says he will make the card magically turn face up, but then he says he has a better idea, to make it 51 times more difficult so he tosses the deck on the table and instantly all cards are magically face up except from one, the selected card, which is the only one face down in the middle of the spread. It is automatic, no sleight of hand needed.

If you use a Sharpie in your show, you're in the perfect position to start performing Permanent. The Effect: The magician shows both sides of a Sharpie marker, and then rubs some of the ink off the side. The magician transfers their powers to a spectator so that they can do it themselves! Then, in the blink of an eye, the writing jumps back onto the marker. The Sharpie can be examined and used in your next routine. Visual magic with a prop you already use. The ultimate in audience participation. Resets in seconds. Great for walk-around. Bonus Effects: Letter Carrier: The magician pulls a printed letter from one side of the Sharpie to another. Ambitious Card: Chris' favorite trick to use with the Permanent routine. A signed card repeatedly jumps to the top of the deck. Ball of Yarn: Another great classic that can be used with the Permanent gimmick. A signed coin vanishes and ends up trapped in a ball of yarn. Trick Specifications: Comes with custom-made Sharpie gimmick, two bonus gimmicks, and instructional DVD. Running Time Approximately: 30 min

Taking Notes by Wayne Dobson

A greatly improved version of my Trick 3 Choice The wallet has been completely redesigned and now fits in the shirt pocket. The wonder worker (that would be you) removes a small credit card wallet from his pocket, flips it open and reveals three different banknotes: UKP10, $10,euro10. You then hand a spectator your business card stating that it has a prediction written upon the back. Whilst your back is turned away the spectator is invited to remove one of the banknotes from the wallet (free choice here, no forcing!) and hide it away in one of their pockets. Once done, they are asked to take another banknote and hide it in another pocket. Finally, they remove the last banknote and hide it in another pocket. Of course, you have turned away throughout so that you have no idea which banknote is in which pocket. OR DO YOU''' Now the magic begins. You are immediately able to name the whereabouts of each and every banknote. Not only that, you point out that you actually knew, way in advance, what the outcome of this strange experiment would be. To prove it, ask the spectator to read the prediction aloud. It tells exactly which banknote would be in which pocket! Wow! Taking Notes is so easy to do and instantly resets and comes complete with a small luxury leather JOL credit card type wallet.

Not only is it the most innocent looking and un-suspecting change bag ever, it's also something that can be used by close up performers as well. It looks just like an ordinary baseball cap, and you can wear it just like a baseball cap (one size fits most), but it can be used for endless change bag effects for stage workers, mentalists, kids performers and street performers. PLEASE NOTE: the Change Cap works differently than most change bags, the gimmick is not mechanical it is a manual change that happens when you 'close' the hat. Imagine throwing two safety pins in the cap, shaking it around and, just like that, they are linked. If someone asks for change for a dollar, just take off your hat, throw the dollar in and, before you know it , coins are rattling around. Perfect for restoring a torn card or forcing any number or object. A natural way for a mentalist to collect slips of paper with personal information! And the list goes on and on. In fact, we held a contest for the best ideas for using the Cap and recieved hundreds of fantastic ideas. The top 52 ideas made it to the Change Cap DVD. Cap Dimension Approximately Size 7 1/8' (57cm)

Eric came up with the solution to the problem that most coin bends face, the ability to make bends visually without cover or the use of expensive gimmicks. With Infinity Bend you can borrow a coin from a spectator and bend it in full view at your finger tips. The methods taught are all easy to perform and well within the grasp of any performer. Eric covers two handlings of the bend ranging from beginner to intermediate. Infinity Bend also features Brandon Williams' ultra visual handling of the effect. In addition, Eric has included a very clever handling of the classic coin matrix. Running Time Approximately 39min

Looking up, they see that not only is it the SIGNED card, but it also now has a bullet hole right thru it! Target Practice: A card is freely chosen and shuffled back into the deck. The cards are now placed into their box as the magician removes a target from his pocket. Sticking the card case to the target, the spectator is asked to fire an invisible gun at the card box as the magician holds it up, attached to the target. Suddenly the card case drops to the floor leaving their SIGNED card stuck to the target complete with a bullet hole right thru it!Ready Teddy Go! A finger ring is borrowed from a spectator.
John Bannon's first effect in the Fractal Card Magic Trilogy. The magician displays several Aces of Spades with the same back design. Explaining how he practices with all the same card, he shows that adding a face-up card can cause the whole pack to turn face up, and vice-versa. While moves are nice, he shows that while moves misdirect you, he took the opportunity to switch in several cards with various back designs. Of course, in order to win money, several other cards change to a Royal Flush in spades. Ends absolutely clean and examinable! Bannon's brilliant handling is explained fully on the enclosed DVD, which includes a downloadable e-book in PDF format. Gaffed cards included. 'I love John Bannon's thinking!
Another incredible creation from the undisputed 'King of Bar Magic.' Alex Lourido's CAPtivated is the perfect culmination of what a magic trick should be: It's shocking, it's highly visual, it's simple to perform, it's an instant reset with multiple possibilities and routines, not to mention it comes with a handsome metal carrying case that easily fits into your pocket! Alex unveiled Captivated at this years Blackpool, creating a feeding frenzy and completely selling out in less than two hours! ''We have never had a product sell out so fast at a magic convention as Captivated did at Blackpool 2009! It is so refreshing to see such an original and amazing close up trick with objects that aren't cards or coins for once!' -- Keelan Leyser and Charlotte Marie - Owners of MagicTricks.co.uk One of the beautiful things about CAPtivated is it can be performed for both stage and close-up audiences. The gaffs -- which you receive eight of -- are beautifully designed and defy scrutiny from the most critical audience. With Captivated you are able to easily change the identity of any bottle cap while in the hands of a spectator! You are also able to make bottle caps switch places while tightly held by two different spectators! With CAPtivated the magic happens within the hands of the spectators. Three Cap Monte: Now you can perform this classic of street magic for your audiences using bottle caps, but with an incredible twist! You openly display three simple caps of different brands and place them on a table face down. You turn over the center cap, or have your audience choose a brand, as you tell them that this cap is the proverbial Ace, and is the one they are going to try and follow. Then very slowly you mix up the caps and ask a spectator to point to the one they believe to be theirs. To everyone's shock when the cap is turned over it is revealed that they are wrong! This is done two or three more times but to everyone's surprise the spectator chooses incorrectly every time. Then you inform them that you are going to let them in on the big secret. The cap they were instructed to track is no longer among the three! 'In fact,' you say, 'none of the original caps are here!' You ask a spectator to turn over the caps, which reveal that all three have changed to a brand that was originally never there! To appreciate the amazing impact CAPtivated has on people please watch the video demo! Very simple to perform. There is no switching of caps. Caps can be examined thoroughly. No sleeving, pulls or invisible threads. You end clean and set-up is virtually instant! Can be performed completely surrounded, no bad angles.

Intercessor (Red)

(Intercessor - someone who acts as an intermediate agent in a transaction or helps resolve differences) For more years than magicians can remember, one of the most powerful principles used in card magic has been the "torn corner principle." A card is selected, one corner is torn off and kept by the spectator, then the rest of the card is destroyed. The card is later found in any type of impossible location, inside a cigarette or lemon, for example. (Robert-Houdin used to have the card appear locked inside of a small safe buried under a tree.) Of course, not only is the card found restored, but the torn off corner matches exactly, proving it was the selected card. All of these mind boggling miracles work on the same principle, that of the corner switch. The torn corner of the forced selected card being switched for a corner of the duplicate card, already set-up in the final location. From now on, thanks the Gaeton's incredible Intercessor gimmick you will be able to achieve all of these effects, without switching the corner at any time! More than that, once the card has been selected the spectator may sign a corner of the card which is then ripped off and handed to the spectator. The spectator may immediately verify that his torn corner matches the card, which only then will be destroyed and found restored in an impossible location. Gaeton's gimmick eliminates the need for any false moves and allows you to immediately repeat the effect if desired! Includes the Intercessor gimmick and 24-page fully illustrated booklet with routines and ideas from Gaeton, Juan Tamariz and Michael Weber.
